Frome and Shepton Early Years Community and Frome’s Under 5s Network are hosting a school readiness event, aimed at Early Years practitioners and community organisations that support families and young children with the transition to school. The event runs at the Key Centre on Tuesday 19 May from 5.30pm to 7pm and free refreshments are provided. Anyone who works with under fives is welcome to attend, including nurseries, childminders and activity providers.
Attendees will have the chance to meet and network with voluntary and statutory organisations including Health Visitors and SEND support services, local charities Purple Elephant and Frome Birth Talk and Somerset Skills and Learning (SS&L) who are hosting free workshops for parents around school readiness during 2026. The event aims to build stronger links between practitioners and ensure families receive joined-up support during this key stage of early development.
There is also a free training session from Sharon Bond and Hayley Allen, of the Early Years Alliance’s Somerset Early Help Advisory Team, covering key considerations when preparing children for starting school. Printed copies of the NHS health visiting team’s School Readiness pack for Parents are available to take away and share with parents and families, thanks to funding from the Early Years Community.
