Project Co-ordinator for Frome’s Community Driving Scheme

Frome Town Council is looking for a part-time, free-lance project co-ordinator to help set up and manage a voluntary driver scheme for Frome.

The volunteer drivers’ scheme will support vulnerable, isolated and ill people to attend medical appointments, to visit friends, go shopping and to attend social events. The Project Co-ordinator will set up the scheme adapting existing toolkits, recruit drivers and help secure funding for the programme.

Anna Francis, Frome Town Council’s Resilience Officer said “With changes in funding and criteria some people struggle to make it to medical appointments. For others, not being able to get out to visit friends or do shopping affordably means they end up feeling very isolated. Volunteer driver schemes exist in many towns and provide a lifeline for people who need transport most. I’d urge anyone who is interested in getting involved or who might be able to offer a few hours driving to get in touch.”

The council is working with Frome Medical Practice, Friends of Frome Hospital, Somerset County Council and others to set up the scheme. The co-ordinator will be paid £10 an hour on a freelance basis. The initial contract is for two days a week for four months with opportunity to continue beyond this period subject to securing funding.

The deadline for the project co-ordinator position is Friday 13 May. If  interested in the position please send your CV and a short letter outlining your relevant skills and experience to Anna Francis: francisa@frometowncouncil.gov.uk or 5 Palmer St Frome BA11 1DS or for inquiries call 01373 475574.
