Market Place Improvements – Planning Application Submitted

Panorama of the Market Place in Frome

Detailed plans for improvements to the Market Place have now been prepared by the Town Council and the next step is for Mendip District Council to consider a planning application that we have submitted.  To view details of the application click here. Consultation with local traders including market stall holders is ongoing.

The plans relate to a first phase of development to be implemented later this financial year. They include:

  • New natural stone paving, new seating, feature lighting and a new power supply to support markets and events within the Market Place
  • Repair of the Boyle Cross monument and reinstatement of the fountain
  • The removal of the majority of parking around the monument so that it becomes a more effective focal point, with more space for people to gather and sit, enable more creative use of the space e.g. for markets and events and to reduce a current source of conflict between road users and between road users and pedestrians

Why are we doing this?

These plans are all about making Frome Town Centre more pedestrian friendly and ultimately a more attractive place for people to visit, shop and do business.  They will be supplemented by a second phase of work that will make it easier for pedestrians to cross the road in the Market Place.
