Lots of love for Frome’s ‘Love Your River Day’

Appropriately for Valentine’s Day weekend, there was lots of love for Frome’s ‘Love Your River Day’ on Saturday – and the event saw a packed line-up of activities with something for everyone.

Fans of global TV show ‘River Monsters’ got to meet Jeremy Wade – the ‘extreme angler’ and biologist who hosted the popular programme. Jeremy was also on hand to chat with fellow anglers and sign copies of his book. And Frome Canoe Club provided paddling sessions on the river.The event also saw a number of stalls providing information – with the Wild Trout Trust, the Environment Agency, Bristol Avon Rivers Trust, Friends of the River Frome, Hunting Raven Books and Frome Town Council all highlighting things to do along the river, as well as ideas and projects for the Frome.canoeIn particular, the Town Council’s Ruth Knagg was at the event to highlight a joint river improvement project: “We’re delighted to be partnering with the Environment Agency this spring to improve the river habitat for fish and wildlife in Rodden Meadow and Weylands” said Ruth.

Attendees at the event had the opportunity to find out more about these works – and to sign up as volunteers to get involved with the plans.
