Frome’s ‘Library of Things’ launches free borrowing and pay as you go

SHARE on the bridge in Frome has launched new membership offers enabling local residents to borrow items for free or ‘pay as you go’. The shop has over 600 items available to borrow many of which are just £1 or £2. Items range from tools to cookery to events and kids stuff. And this comes just in time for Christmas.

Shop co-manager Sam said ‘We want to make it as easy as possible to borrow. We know that membership fees have been a barrier to people just wanting to borrow a one off so the new pay as you go offer should make this easier. However, if you want to borrow items more regularly and / or support the shop in becoming a sustainable enterprise there are several options including a monthly £3 direct debit which entitles members to free borrowing.’

Sam added ‘We’re always looking for new and improved stock at SHARE. If you have items you think would be a good addition to our inventory then please do let us know and check out our wishlist if you have items like gazebos that others could borrow. And if you have any stories about what you’ve borrowed we’d love to hear from you.’

Anna Francis Frome Town Council’s Resilience Manager, who helped to set up SHARE in 2015, said ‘Borrowing rather than buying makes so much sense – it’s affordable and means these items don’t take up precious storage space in our homes. It also cuts waste and carbon so it really is a win-win. When you need tools or are planning a party it’s really worth having a quick look at the on-line inventory to see if you can borrow from SHARE.’

SHARE is also now able to accept card payments making borrowing quicker and easier. The shop is open Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays between 10am and 4pm and can be contacted during opening hours on 07983639611 or via the SHARE website: www.sharefrome.org
