Busy Frome junction set for upgrade

Work to upgrade a busy junction in Frome is due to start later this month. Somerset County Council is planning improvements at the traffic light controlled junction of Berkley Road and Rodden Road.

The upgrade will include safer facilities for pedestrians and cyclists, and new traffic lights using extra low voltage equipment and LED lights to reduce energy usage and save money. The junction will also be fully resurfaced as part of the works.

Work will begin on Monday 29 February and take around 8-10 weeks to complete. To allow work to take place safely and as quickly as possible, temporary traffic lights will be required with a road closure on the northern end of Rodden Road.

Cllr David Fothergill, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “This is a busy crossing in need of an upgrade and I’m pleased we’re able to include some safety improvements as well as installing new technology which will save money and energy.

“Please bear with us while work is underway and let me apologise in advance for any inconvenience.”
