A Mindful Council

On Thursday 4 June, a group of Frome Town Council staff and Councillors met for a taster workshop on Mindfulness. The workshop responded to people’s curiosity around mindfulness, and the need to balance working life and modern living. We tried out several simple exercises which gave us a first-hand experience of mindfulness. The practices were designed for the workplace, to help busy staff and councillors who would like to find further ways to improve their specialisms and direction – using mindfulness as one approach to do this.
There was also an introduction to the background of mindfulness and its current role in society, particularly related to the civil service and politics. The All Parliamentary Group on Mindfulness recommend that “Public sector employers such as […] the civil service pioneer good practice and set up mindfulness pilot projects […] to combat stress” . Click here for more information about the Mindfulness All-Party Parliamentary Group (MAPPG), and their report on a Mindful Nation. The workshop was offered by Eva Ruijgrok-Lupton from Everyday Mindfulness, as a service to the community.Eva regularly runs free taster sessions and recently delivered a whole series of free workshops during the Mental Health Awareness Week last month.
